After being out of town for a week, and with the way our garden has been with cucumbers - I harvested 20! this past Monday. We still had some in the fridge and had taken 5 with us to Tennessee. And you can eat only so much Creamy Cucumber Gazpacho!
So, I told the kids we would set up the table at the entrance to the neighborhood around 5:30pm and give away the ones I had just harvested.
Alyssa made the big sign and everyone made hand held signs. We set up and waited.
We didn't have to wait long and within an hour had given them all away. Logan became a bit attached, but allowed his cucumber to be given away as well.
Some people asked how much they were - we told them free and to take as many as they wanted. A couple of people forced money upon us, one dropping it into the bowl right before taking off. They both got cookies delivered to them the next day!
The kids had a lot of fun. It has been great having a garden this year. I've been learning a lot, like ONE cucumber plant next year!
After putting up the deer netting, our peppers and tomatoes are coming back and we have some good looking watermelons and pumpkins coming along. We finally even got a tomatillo plant growing (we had started those from seeds and it took a while).
It has been great sharing our harvests with friends and neighbors.
