Visitors for a Week!

We were so excited to have cousins come visit. For a week we had 4 teenage girls in the house and we had a blast!
They came in a rain storm and potential rain all week - but we ended up having beautiful weather the rest of their time here.
UGA
Robert took them on a tour around UGA - we're hoping they'll decide to go here and we can have them close!

HELEN, GA
We went to Helen to tube the Chattahoochee River!
 We all started out.
Jake was excited to venture on his own (I rarely saw him, but made sure I spied his tube every once in a while).
Logan stayed hooked to me, but wanted to be on his own.
During some calmer times I let him loose!
Once we were close to Natalie and Rachel and Natalie got concerned that Logan was floating on his own.
He also wanted to get out of his tube, so in some shallower spots I let him take a dip in the river.
It was refreshingly cold.
The girls took a lazy time down the river,
 enjoying their time together.
After tubing and lunch, we walked around the town and looked in the shops.
They have signs and t-shirts and other stuff with saying on them.
I really liked this one:
We sampled fudge at the Hansel and Gretel Candy Kitchen and took in all the wonderful smells.
After walking around for a while we went to
Goats On The Roof for ice cream . . . and to feed the goats.
The goats are well trained to the sound of the chain bringing up the can with food.
They don't even wait for the bell to ring and dump it before they are trying to eat.
Everyone got a turn cranking up food.
Inside the shop, the mountain man was quite the favorite.
The girls played a little checkers while we all enjoyed our ice cream.
Natalie and Jake split the cost of a bag of dirt
so everyone could have a chance to mine for gems.

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA
We (ok, I can't speak for everyone, so I) love having an excuse to go hike Stone Mountain. It was a bit warm (but we've hiked it in hotter weather), but there was a really nice breeze.
The boys loved that the train came around by the trail head while we were there.
We took a couple of breaks, with one at the pavilion, on the way up.
We finally made it to the top!
The cousins got certificates that they had hiked up (we already have multiple certificates).
We wondered around the top for a while.
 And took in the view.
It had rained earlier in the week and there were still puddles at the top. Someone had some fun with this puddle.
After a group shot, we headed back down.
We LOVED having our cousins come, they were so much fun to have around and show around our neck of the woods.
Here is one of the steeper parts where they have a handrail to help you, if needed (it's needed!).
After eating a picnic dinner we took our things down to the lawn to wait for the laser show. There were some boys waiting at the gate of the train tracks looking down. We noticed there were coins all over the tracks.
The boys had put them there and were waiting for the train to flatten them.
Jake and Logan loved this idea and couldn't wait for the train to come!
We kept an eye on the coins as the train wheels rolled over them.
We could see them get flatter and flatter.
Jake and Logan helped collect them, once the train had passed, and gave them back to the boys that had laid them out. The oldest of the boys gave Jake and Logan each a coin to keep.
They were thrilled. Then they looked around the grass and rocks for lost change (and found some), and I gave them a couple coins from my wallet to lay out for the next train.
So cool!
There was part of Stone Mountain that I hadn't been to yet and wanted to check out.
In the direction opposite the way we go to hike up the mountain is a watermill.
Natalie came with me while the others stayed to play on the lawn.

It was a fun walk and a really cool place.
It was right at the edge of the lake.
We hurried to get back before sunset.
While we waited for it to get dark enough,

the kids danced to the music playing,
and we got the glow stick out.

(The music in the background of the video, was a commercial for getting food before the show started.)

The kids always want glow sticks and the ones at the park are, of course, way expensive, so I picked up a whole bunch at the dollar store the week before. Perfect!
It was FINALLY time for the show to start!
We had a wonderful day!

SWIMMING IN OUR RIVER & A ROAST
I don't know if the river will ever get warm enough for Logan this summer, but there were enough people to play with to quickly distract him.
Robert and the girls did a little fishing (ok, Robert did a lot of fishing),
and the kids swam and explored and played.
We roasted hot dogs over the fire for dinner,
 with s'mores for dessert.

ELDER MILL BRIDGE
We went to see Elder Mill Bridge,
one of the last all wooden bridges in Georgia.

FATHER'S DAY
The girls were with us for Father's Day and, after skyping their Dad, enjoyed mini pizzas
made with Robert's good crust recipe.
 They were so yummy!
And the girls tried out some Vidalia onion pie - also yummy.
As part of his Father's Day, Robert wanted to go for a walk at the Botanical Gardens close by, it ended up being quite a walk! almost 4 miles and we didn't even get to the actual gardens.
But we did get to walk along the river
and see some wildlife up-close.

We stopped for chicken biscuits for breakfast on the way to the airport Monday. After they told Robert they had never heard of having chicken for breakfast it became a must.
There were so many more things we wanted to do with them (we did some that I don't have pictures of) - a week just wasn't long enough!

We'll have to have them again and for longer!
Come visit!! We'll show you around too.
