Warrior Romp

Jake has been training, with Robert, for the last 6 weeks to run a 5k.
They picked one that was a fundraiser for the high school's (Alyssa's) cross-country team.
Alyssa ran it also.
Here are the three of them pre-race.
There were some storms moving through, which cooled off the hot day and shortened the mile fun run with rain and thunder. The boys played on the tires while they waited for the race to start.
The sun broke through for a bit. It was a beautiful evening.

Here's the starting line - and they're ready to go.
Alyssa ran with a couple of boys from the cross-country team, but took them in the end! :) Coming in 8th overall.

It's a very looping course (the hand pointing the way to go) and when you pass through the same area two or three times you start wondering if the race will ever end.
But it did! And they all made it!!
Jake ran the whole time and crossing the finish line, with Robert, at just under 35 minutes.
Being his first 5k, it was a big accomplishment for him. He was on a runner's high that night, but feeling it in the morning as he tried to walk up and down the stairs and stay awake during church. :)
Jake got 3rd place in his age bracket and received a medal. Alyssa got first in her age bracket and got to pick a trophy.
(The coach had gathered old trophies and replated them with the awards for the 2014 Warrior Romp! A great idea and fun to come home with an award!)
Now we'll have to pick another 5k and have the whole family participate.
