Campout - sort of

The Activity Day girls (Natalie's age youth group at church) came to our house last Friday for a "camp out."It really was only until 10pm, but they did everything you would do at a camp out.
They learned how to build a fire. While the fire burned down, they made first aid kits and talked about camping and hiking safety.Alyssa had prepared a nature walk for them through the woods and took them on that, identifying poison ivy (we've been working on getting rid of that) and different types of trees. They prepared and made foil dinners. It was fun seeing the girls peel and chop. Most couldn't stand the onions and a few had to wash their faces their eyes stung so bad. I told them if they learned anything from the evening it was to always use sweet onions!
They actually ate their foil dinners (most of the dinners anyway, we had a couple of extra for the ones that didn't quite make it out of the coals edible). They learned how to put up a tent.
And they played games and then still had good coals for s'mores at the end.Their leader did a wonderful job, it was a great activity and all the girls had a fun time.
There were storms scheduled for that evening and we had a bit of thunder and some sprinkles of rain, but not enough to dampen the activity.
The river was too high for swimming. They'll have to come back and do that later.

What a great activity! How disappointing about the swim though. We'll have to make a trip out there someday and give it a go too.
