The Wall

Although there are some finishing touches to make (leveling out the dirt in the back yard and on the hill), Robert wanted me to blog the rock retaining wall he put in.

After digging into the hill, gathering rocks at various friends houses, placing and leveling, the rock retaining wall took shape.

He added steps so the kids could have a place to walk up, instead of climbing up the wall, to get to the swing and the front of the house.

Below is a picture of the whole wall with Logan sitting on the steps for reference. It has been quite a project. We need a good rain to help everything settle down and firm up. That red dirt packs really solid once it gets wet and dries out.

It looks great and helps give good dimensions to that side of the back yard. In shaping the hill above the wall, Robert will grade it so rain water will go away from the house to the side of the yard. Before the wall, water would wash straight down the side of the house, from the front, and into the back yard by the porch. We would rather it be channeled away - especially when we get those wonderful rainfalls that dump a ton of water.

Oh my goodness you guys are so 'handy'. You have done so much to your house. I am seriously impressed at your and Robert's skills.
