Last week, Alyssa had some friends over for a party.
After playing outside and eating pizza, the cake challenge began!
They split into two team and had a bunch of candy and such to decorate with and decide how they were going to decorate their cake.
They were given some time to plan. . . .
They were given some time to plan. . . .

Then began the constructing and decorating. They were given an hour to complete their cakes before being judged.

At the half way mark the cakes were well under way.

As the time wound down the teams scrambled to get the finishing touches on their cakes.

Team A (the pictures on the left) went with a two dimensional M&M approach with a horse and trees and a river.
Team B (the pictures on the right) went three dimensional - building a house, tree, pool, and driveway with car.
Natalie and Jake were the judges. Without knowing it, Team A won by putting in a horse. You put a horse on anything and you have Natalie's vote. Jake tried to say the house was a water volcano, but Alyssa kept telling him it was a house. If she had said yes, it is a water volcano, she would have gotten Jake's vote. We also tried her to say the car was really a horse - they would have won with that - but no, it was a car.
As it was, Team A won "first place", while Team B got "most creative."
Either way the cakes were very good to eat!
With the left over decorations and cake pieces, I let Logan, Jake, and Natalie make cakes as well.Logan slopped on some frosting and stuck some candy to it - he only ate the candy.
Jake put in some acid (the yellow squiggly).
And Natalie made two cakes. One with a Nutty Bar base and donut/chocolate frosted marshmallow tower.
The other a pig (the pink frosted marshmallow) in its pen.
All were yummy and everyone had fun. And, for Alyssa, here are some other shots of their cake:
