Before heading to Utah for the Beckstead reunion, we took our few days in Missouri to take a trip to Nauvoo.

On our way out there we drove past some of the flooding in the midwest. We drove over the Mississippi River, where going off the bridge the road had been built up (it looked like about 6 feet) in order to allow cars to go over the flooded river. Some of the craziest flooding was a submerged tractor (most were moved to higher ground and were lined up on the higher parts of the fields); the round hay bales on the fields and then in the water as the field went down a hill - submerged in water; and the corn fields all or partially flooded (the picture below).

and try walking on stilts.

The wagon driver guarantied he could put Logan to sleep . . . he did. We were in the first row, right behind the horses - you'd think the smell wafting our way would have kept him awake or maybe that was what knocked him out!

In one of the other activity areas the kids made rope and learned how they made bread, candles, wove and made clothes.

The girls loved touring through the homes and buidlings. Logan made it a minute or so and Jake wasn't too far behind in wanting to leave. He would wait patiently while the girls finished the tour. With all the storms moving through we had beautiful weather while we were there. Cool and overcast and hardly anyone there (a rarity in June).
Thanks Grandma Lehnardt for taking us.

So fun! I wen to Nauvoo for the first time last December and loved it! Such a beautiful place. I completely know what you're talking about with the smell from the horses (I bet it's MUCH worse in June than in the winter snow though). Love the pictures =)!
