Getting Ready

We harvested two pumpkins from our garden this year. They actually harvested themselves early (breaking off the vine - one we found in the middle of our back yard, it had been perched on the rock wall and couldn't hang on any longer) and they have been ripening on our back deck ever since. It was nice not having to buy pumpkins. Sure, you miss out on the pumpkin patch experience - but that was ok - these were free!
We were suppose to have 3 soccer games on Tues., but once they got rained out we used our free evening to carve our pumpkins.
Pumpkins were cleaned out, face plans made, and the carving began.
There was a bit of surgery to fix a slip of the knife - you can't even tell.
And they were ready to glow.
Jake wanted a big nose and Natalie is all into vampires this year.

The next day, our pumpkins were joined by some ghost friends.
I found this recipe for meringue ghosts and just had to try them out.
A yummy bit of fluffy sweetness!
The costumes are ready, the pumpkins are carved . . .
Halloween here we come!
